British Airways Holidays


British Airways are predominantly known as an airline first, but you can book more than just flights through the website. Hotels, hire cars and transfer options can all be bought alongside flights. These ‘ground products’ are sold through British Airways Holidays (BAH), a separate operational company which specialises in packaging up holidays to offer the customer the best deal.

As part of a continued redevelopment and reinvestment of the platform, the BAH selling flow is undergoing a revamp. The back-end services and the UI are being overhauled to improve performance and accessibility to users of all abilities.

This large-scale project involves teams from five different companies located in London, Madrid, Slovenia, Chennai and Newcastle/Durham. Composed of around 40 individuals’ skills range from UX through to Release Managers.

Our Service

Leighton’s role is as ‘Technical Assurance Lead’ involves managing the technical execution of the project to ensure BAH’s requirements are met.

This involves Leighton harnessing our extensive knowledge of and W3C accessibility standards to make sure the selling flow is to the high standard required, for both the channel and to be inclusive for all users.
Day to day activity involve:

• Working with the Business Analysts and UX team to make sure requirements are covered before ‘briefing’ the work into the Development team.
• Code reviews of the work produced by the development team to ensure a high level of quality is built into the product.
• As the Technical Lead, representing the business and the channel, we lead in finding solutions and ensuring process change when it is required.

The Impact

Through our coaching and up-skilling, all teams including third parties now have the knowledge to ensure accessibly standards are adhered to in the technical build of the selling flow.

We have led in managing team communication throughout the project to minimise any misunderstandings in the project scope are minimised. This key responsibly bridges the gap between the businesses understanding and the delivery teams understanding. Though precise communication management the project retains focus with very few scope issues.
